Every week, we ask a real estate professional for their Short List, a collection of tips and recommendations on an essential topic in real estate. This week, we talked with Ben Moss, managing broker and principal of The Campins Company.

7. Always strive to improve yourself and your capabilities. This can include practicing scripts, earning a designation or reading. Wanting to be the best should be your focus. Appreciate the journey.

6. Love what you do (not just the money). Deals will blow up, but if you work for the love of what you do and for providing the best service you can to your clients, the disappointment when things do go wrong will not be as great.

5. Set goals and implement systems to help you achieve them. Work smarter, not harder.

4. Know when to get help. When you get to a point that you are so busy that you are not enjoying the business and/or cutting corners with your clients, it is time to hire an assistant.

3. Take time for yourself. Spend 20 minutes a day, minimum, meditating or developing your spiritual self. This is the ‘you’ at the core. Once you get to know yourself fully, and engage yourself in this manner on a daily basis, your goals and your life will flow more smoothly and be more consistent with what really does matter to you.

2. Find what interests you outside of your career. If you have no hobbies or interest, it’s time to reinvent yourself. Don’t feel guilty about spending time on hobbies or things that are truly personal to you or bring you great pleasure (within reason, of course). Excitement pulls you through life and gives you more energy. Lack of excitement creates stagnation of your energy and seeps into every facet of your life.

1. Focus on positive thinking. Expressing gratitude for what you have and being positive throughout the day is life-changing.
