New Eateries In Coconut Grove

Coconut Grove’s art-loving, laid-back, bike-friendly vibe has always made it one of the most beautiful and unique communities that Miami has to offer. However, there was a time when restaurant chains and bars, aimed at tourists and college kids, had overtaken the neighborhood and the Grove had lost its charm. It was only in recent years that a resurgence in the area has brought chef-driven restaurants back to the neighborhood and restored the Grove’s identity. World-renowned chefs like Michael Schwartz and Giorgio Rapicavoli, among many top local chefs, are racing to open up new eateries alongside many of the well-established local favorites that have been staples in the community.

With the influx of new restaurants to open their doors over the past year, I want to present you with a list - in no particular order - of all the new spots that foodies should check out and keep on their radar.

The Spillover

Coconut Grove’s New Seafood Eatery and Cider Bar from the team behind the Grove’s burger eatery LoKal along with Kush —will offer casual, seafood-centric plates. The menu features dishes like Gulf Shrimp corn chowder, Bahamian conch strips, shrimp mac and cheese, lobster BLT croissant sandwiches, whole fried catch of the day and jambalaya. Plenty of non-seafood things are also on the menu like BBQ alligator ribs and lamb meatballs, salads and gluten-free pastas. The Spillover is located at 2911 Grand Avenue. Suite 400D, behind the Mayfair hotel.

33 Kitchen

What used to be Bombay Darbar, 33 features simple Peruvian cuisine made with no more than six ingredients per dish like snapper tiradito, cured tuna, quinoa salad and Peruvian style fried rice. Located at 3195 Commodore Plaza, Miami, FL 33133.

Ariete

Former Cypress Room sous chef Michael Beltran serves up American cuisine with plates like grilled oysters topped with bone marrow butter and short rib — in a laid back, friendly environment that makes you want to sit down and stay awhile. Ariete is located at 3540 Main Hwy Coconut Grove, FL 33133.

Spasso

Coconut Grove’s newest spot for authentic Italian cuisine. Italian Master Chef Gaetano Ascione focuses on no-frills, rustic cuisine. Menu includes filled pastas, classic Italian dishes, traditional Neapolitan pizza, handcrafted and baked in Spasso’s stone oven, fresh fish and beef dishes, too. Spasso is located 3540 Main Hwy Miami, FL 33133.

Harry's Pizzeria

With pizza options like rock shrimp, short rib, and pesto pizza I would have a hard time trying to decide which one to pick. Polenta fries are a popular item on the menu but if that is not your cup a tea, you can simply enjoy the fresh salad and the wood-fired oven roasted chicken wings. Located at 2996 McFarlane Rd, Coconut Grove, FL 33133.

Farinelli 1937

Maurizio Farinelli founder has opened Fairnelli across the street from his popular eatery Strada in the Grove. The Italian concept will serve pizzas and dishes from two brick ovens — one of which is dedicated to pizza. According to Farinelli, the pizzas will be 100-percent Italian-style with offerings like white truffle and osso bucco. Other items include high-end sandwiches, a wine list of 100 options, nearly a dozen champagnes, and proseccos by the glass, and a multitude of craft beers from Italy and locally, will round out the menu. Fairnelli 1937 is located at 3199 Commodore Plaza, Miami, FL 33133.
