Miami Breweries

I’ll admit that I’m a snob when it comes to drinking beer these days. I prefer my beer in a glass and would rather have a water than a Budweiser or Bud Light (or just about any other comparable beer). That being said, I’ve been happy to see Miami evolve as a beer-drinking town and have more breweries offering local craft beers beyond just Titanic in Coral Gables and The Abbey on Miami Beach (which doesn’t brew on-site).

I recently had a couple buddies in town who wanted to check out the local beer scene, and so I took them to Wynwood of course, where we could walk to several breweries and sample their beers. While I had been previously to Wynwood Brewing Company’s tap room on a previous occasion, and had tried many of the other brewery’s beers, this was actually the first time I had engaged in an actual “brewery tour” in Miami. It blew me away really, because it was such a different “Miami experience” for me. Growing up in Miami since the age of five, in some ways I thought I had sort of done it all in this town. For anyone who is a beer aficionado and has a Saturday afternoon free, I would highly recommend walking Wynwood and taking in the entire scene, and checking out these breweries along the way:

J. Wakefield Brewing (120 NW 24 Street): Check out their flight of sour beers, which are hard to brew (and also hard to drink…, but worth trying).

Concrete Beach Brewery (325 NW 24 Street): I think the environment (indoor/outdoor loungy areas) is better than the beers, but the way they have set up the place is worth seeing and enjoying).

Wynwood Brewing Company: Always a lively scene in this windowless tap room, but every time I have been its busy, and the beers are very good (they even have a kombucha on tap right now).

Boxelder Craft Beer Market: While it’s not a brewery, it’s a good stop on the brewery tour because they have a wall lined with exotic beers you can buy (hence, the market) and a great bar lined with taps of all sorts of craft beers. When I was there, an Asheville-based brewer was on site pitching their beer, and it’s a great scene with lots of unique offerings.
