Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Moss.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started off in real estate with an eye towards investing – flipping, buying/renovating/selling a 12-unit apartment building in Coral Gables while in college. I interned at a real estate investment bank during college which led to a full-time job for a year after college. However, I felt restless and didn’t enjoy sitting in a back room for long days working on offering memorandums. To me, real estate was about being out and about, engaging with people and doing deals. I then got a job as a landlord rep in the office leasing arena and did that for five years. I backed into residential real estate (long story) opening a company with my ex-wife in 2005 and have been in the residential space ever since. I have put many long hours to advance in the residential brokerage world and I have been able to carve out a niche within the sports/entertainment real estate world wherein I represent and assist celebrities with their real estate needs across the country. I still have a long ways to go, but have come a long way since stepping foot into the residential side of the business just over a decade ago and now ranking as one of the top-producing realtors in the country.

Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t believe there is a smooth road, if you are trying to achieve something. I think the path to success is to have a hunger, then as you make mistakes along the way, learn from them. Mistakes are a great teacher and they have been my mentor in this business, along with reading. I would not necessarily call them mistakes then, based on how I view them, but I would not want to do certain things again such as start my own brokerage, go into business with my spouse, not have a solid business plan with accountability measures in place and not set aside time every day for achieving what’s most important.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ben Moss Group – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I have formed a group of real estate professionals within Compass to service our clients at a high level. Aligning with Compass allows us to use the best real estate technology tools in the industry, making us more efficient and making the client interface much better for the client as well. I specialize within the luxury market, but focus on relationships primarily, so we do service properties of all price ranges and sizes within the residential space. For instance, I have become known for representing athletes, but many of these clients rent for their first few years before they buy their first home. I see this as an opportunity to build relationships and help educate these clients along the way, so that they are smart purchasers of real estate when that time comes. I have focused on education as a way to build bridges to this segment. I also have a practice that allows me to have about 40% of my real estate transactions occur outside of South Florida, so building a growing referral-based business has been a key to my growth in this industry as well.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like the diversity of the people and in my business, I am constantly meeting new people who are coming in from all over the world. It provides for a growth mindset as there is always new blood and ideas. The traffic and lack of access to nature is what I like the least (great city if you are a boater, which I am not).
